Social SEO seems to be the latest buzzword that’s getting thrown around in the marketing sphere at the moment but what does it actually mean? And is it something you really need to care about? I’m spilling the tea on what it is and how you can optimise your platforms.
What does it actually mean?
SEO stands for search engine optimisation, essentially it’s the way we optimise webpages so that they can appear in the search results when someone types a phrase into a search engine like Google.
Although social media platforms are technically not a search engine, stats show that 75.78% of consumers have used social media to search for or discover new products and brands (Stat from Tint) And Gen Z are more likely to turn to Instagram and TikTok to search when looking for local recommendations.

Can it make a difference?
Definitely! By optimizing your social media profiles and content, you’re making it easier for your target audience to find you. You can do this by adding keywords and phrases which your audience is likely to search for.
This will then help the algorithm know what your content is about, meaning it’s more likely to show up in the search result of your audience. By showing up in more results pages you’ll increase the reach and awareness of your brand. And hopefully, drive more sales, traffic to your websites etc.
How can we optimise our channels?
Create a killer bio: Your bio is like your social media elevator pitch, so make it count! Include relevant keywords (but keep it natural!), and tell people exactly what you do
Keyword magic: Sprinkle relevant keywords throughout your captions. But remember, avoid keyword stuffing! This is where you try and stuff a bunch of keywords in, which results in a caption that doesn’t read very well. Instead focus on creating engaging content that naturally incorporates the words and phrases your target audience is searching for
Alt Text power: Don’t underestimate the power of alt text! This describes your images for people who are using screenreaders, and can be a good place to include keywords as well. However, make sure they’re relevant to the image and don’t use this as a space to key word stuff
Hashtag heroes: Despite what some people might say, hashtags are not dead! They are the social media equivalents of filing cabinets, helping people find specific content. Research popular hashtags in your niche and add a handful of relevant options
Subtitle savvy: If you’re posting videos, then make sure to add subtitles. Not only do they increase accessibility, but they’re also another opportunity to include those magic keywords.
