With search becoming a huge factor in social, it’s more important than ever to make sure you profile is optimised.
Stats show that Gen Z are more likely to take to social media to find services than Google. Recent research from Google found that almost 40% of 18-24 year-olds would use Instagram or TikTok to find places for lunch rather than use Google (TechCrunch).
Social media platforms are also gearing themselves more towards search so it makes sense to ensure that your Instagram bio is optimised so that you appear in searches.
Here’s what you should include in your bio:
You area of expertise
This should make it clear to anyone who visits your page who you are and what you do. You can include this in the name section for example if your a personal trainer who only trains clients in a particular area you may want to include where your based e.g. Claire Smith | Personal Trainer – Glasgow.

What your followers can expect to see
Let your potential followers know what content you post about and what they can expect to see if they follow you. Add information about your brand and what makes you unique. If you’re a sustainable fashion brand you might want to include information about what your clothing is made from and what sizes you stock.
If you want your customers to use a branded hashtag to share your products, include this in your bio so they know what to use. Having a branded hashtag means you can gather User Generated Content which you can then re-share on your own channels. For example River Island uses #ImWearingRI.
A call to action
Think about what you want your audience to do and use this as your CTA. Is it to book a service? Sign up to your mailing list? Or contact you? You can use the CTA to drive people to your link in bio.
If you have a business account then you can also add a contact button so that your audience can easily get in touch whether it’s by email or phone.
A link to your website or other social channels
You can add a link to your bio and you should definitely use it! You could link to your website, newsletter sign up or other social channels. If you want to link to more than one place you could use a service link LinkTree or Milkshake.
